| | so. ffxi was down today, and all the addicts went to AIM.
never ceases to surprise me what
people are willing to share with strangers. ok, i write that as i'm
typing this into a public journal, but, hey, you can keep a secret,
right?
like
the one "uber" guy who tells me that his estranged father got a 16 year
old pregnant with twins. this is all after threatening to send me a
naked picture of him cause i wouldn't tell him my name. (this makes
sense how?) i always thought he was a thug, but he assures me he's a
punk. or the other "uber" player who never wants anyone to know
that he's muslim and grew up in saudi arabia. or..
but the running thread seems to be why these people play. they want to
feel like they're good at something. makes it hard to quit when you go
to real life where it's not as simple as leveling another job,
outdamaging someone, or getting the best equipment ever. i mean, real
life doesn't ding. and doesn't give you a hint of when you've
succeeded. you just have to kinda follow. i keep trying to tell these
people to focus more on real life, but then i'm still playing, so who
am i to say anything.
and i haven't figured out what my reason is. fun is one thing. but i'm
sure there are plenty of other things wrapped up into why i'm playing.
and why i listen to a bunch of random strangers share the weird aspects
of their lives.
as i just said to dem, i used to think i was the server psychiatrist until i became its patient.
ps. man boobies is a great phrase to use in everyday conversation.
